Since September 2025, Isabel Sainz has been representing the young scientists (yATLAS-D) as their new delegate within ATLAS Germany, advocating for the interests of early-career researchers. She succeeds Fiona Ann Jolly, who previously held the role. Simon Thiele continues as the second representative, now serving alongside Isabel.

Isabel Sainz has been a member of the ATLAS Collaboration for two years and has been pursuing her PhD at Heidelberg University for one year. Her current research focuses on calorimeter calibration, although she will soon be moving on to a new topic.

Originally from Galicia (Spain), she has lived in Germany for several years – and feels at home here. About her new role, she says:
“I’m looking forward to taking part in this project and representing my colleagues from Germany by doing my best to address any issues that may arise. I’m generally a straightforward person who isn’t afraid to speak my mind, but I’m always ready to listen.”
Outside of her scientific work, Isabel finds balance in completely different activities: she enjoys gardening, cooking, and reading—especially when shared with others.

With her open and committed attitude, Isabel aims to help young ATLAS members in Germany connect more closely and make their voices heard. Together with Simon Thiele, she will work to ensure that the perspectives of early-career researchers are well represented within the German ATLAS community.

The spokesperson of the ATLAS Germany research focus, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wagner from the University of Wuppertal, welcomes Ms. Sainz to her new role and looks forward to collaborating with her in the coming years. He also expresses his gratitude to Ms. Fiona Ann Jolly for her dedicated work as the previous representative of the young members of the research network.
